Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul has announced a new unit that is the first of its kind. On Nov. 12, Raoul announced the creation of the first-ever Conviction Integrity Unit (CIU) within the Attorney General’s office.

The Illinois Attorney General’s Office has announced the creation of a new unit dedicated to investigating potential wrongful convictions across the state.

The new Conviction Integrity Unit will primarily help state’s attorneys in counties that do not already have offices to investigate potential wrongful convictions.
